Origins of the hotel

The origins of Westduin Beach Hotel lie in a simple stage station in an old wooden farmhouse at the foot of the dunes at the Galgenweg. Mr and Mrs Huvers-Hille started selling coffee, tea, lemonade, candy and 'stroopwafels’ (syrup waffles) here in 1926.

New opportunities

Contractor P. Flipse from Koudekerke bought the property, or at least obtained an option on plot 245 with a total area of 7000 m2. He signed a provisional purchase agreement with a safety clause that allowed hotel construction. On 20 May 1981, he submitted a plan to the Municipality of Valkenisse for rearranging the site.

Sketch plans for the renovation

In March 1983, Izeboud announced the name of his hotel: Westduin Budget Hotel. It was not until Friday 12 August 1983 that the first of the 180 piles was driven into the ground.

Modernization

After the ‘Gedeputeerde Staten’ (Provincial Executive) issued the required declaration of no objection, Izeboud was able to realise the desired expansion of the restaurant and kitchen in 1998.

Renovation plan

In 1996 and 1997, Izeboud was working on two major plans: a three-year renovation plan for the existing three wings in the winters of 1998, 1999 and 2000, and a construction plan for new facilities to be realised in the period from 2000 to 2002. The aim was to improve quality.
